A flight booking that includes your cat or dog does not automatically settle the journey from the airport to your accommodation. Before ordering a car in Tallinn, describe the animal and its carrier and ask for explicit acceptance. The useful question is not just “does the car have enough seats?” but “has this particular journey been agreed with the animal, carrier and luggage included?”

This is a guide to preparing a request, not a statement that IMS Transfer accepts every pet or has a dedicated animal-transport fleet. Availability, the proposed vehicle, transport conditions and any additional cost must be confirmed individually before the booking is finalised.

Describe the animal before choosing a vehicle

Tell the operator whether you are travelling with a cat, dog or another animal, how many animals there are and their approximate size and weight. Explain whether each will travel in a closed carrier. If a dog will not be in a carrier, raise that at the first enquiry rather than arriving with a lead and assuming the arrangement is acceptable.

Send the carrier’s external length, width and height, not only a label such as “small” or “airline approved”. Mention whether it is rigid or soft-sided. A photograph can help explain an unusual shape, but measurements are more useful for checking fit. Do not select a smaller vehicle on the assumption that a soft carrier can be squeezed between suitcases.

Count the carrier alongside the rest of the luggage

List passengers, suitcases, hand luggage, child seats and any pushchair together with the carrier. A large crate and two large cases create a different space requirement from a small carrier and one cabin bag. The carrier also needs an agreed position: it should not be treated as another item to stack beneath luggage.

Ask how the carrier or animal will be accommodated and secured in the proposed vehicle. Agreement to carry a pet does not by itself describe the transport setup. Keep ventilation openings clear and avoid packing the items you need during the journey underneath everything else. A towel or protective cover may be useful, but it is not a substitute for confirming the arrangement with the operator.

Keep airline approval and the road journey separate

Tallinn Airport’s pet travel guide advises checking each airline’s rules and allowing time for the required check-in checks. Follow the airline’s instructions for your actual flight; a carrier accepted on a flight is not automatically approved for a particular car journey. For a transfer to the airport, agree pickup backwards from the arrival time your airline requires.

After landing, allow for collecting the animal and completing the arrival process before you are ready to leave. Share your flight number and date, then check official airport flight information if the journey changes. Ask how waiting and changes are handled; do not assume the vehicle can wait indefinitely without a new agreement.

Agree the practical handover and any stops

Choose a clear meeting point and a contact number that will work on arrival. Keep the carrier closed while moving through busy pickup areas and follow the agreed loading plan. If the carrier must be adjusted or opened, first discuss a suitable safe place rather than doing so beside moving traffic.

For a longer journey, request any necessary stop in advance and explain whether it is for passengers or the animal. Confirm that your accommodation accepts the pet too. If you want sightseeing on the way, ask whether the animal can be accommodated throughout that programme; a direct transfer approval should not be treated as approval to leave it waiting in a parked vehicle during visits.

A request that can receive a clear answer

“We need a transfer on [date] from [pickup] to [address], with [passengers], [luggage] and [animal, approximate size and weight]. The carrier measures [length × width × height] and is [rigid/soft-sided]. Please confirm whether this journey is possible, the proposed vehicle and carrier arrangement, any extra charge and the waiting or stop conditions.” Add child-seat needs and your arrival contact.

Send these details through the IMS Transfer enquiry page before confirming the ride. The quick calculator can help start a route enquiry, but it does not confirm pet acceptance or the final price for this request. Wait for a written answer covering the complete travelling party before relying on the transport plan.
